Memory BiasAssignment VII
DEVELOPMENT: Nature v. Nature
Fallacies are a mistaken belief, especially one based on unsound argument.
Slippery Slope Fallacy is the ideas that a sort of chain reaction will take place usually ending in dire Consequence, but there's really not enough evidence for that assumption to take place.
A real life experience where I dealt with the slippery slope fallacy is when Eboli was a big deal coming into the United States. I thought that when they brought one person in the United States who had eboli to get treatment and treatment is effective then they will bring more. The next thing you know they would bring people with Eboli by the hundreds then by the thousands the next thing you know half the population would have eboli.
The appeal to authority fallacy attempts to justify an argument by citing a highly admired or well known figure who supports the conclusion being offered.
In my younger years I always wondered how stylist made celebrity hair styles look so good. I learned alot of it is using skilled technique and custom lace wigs. So I went and bought a custom lace wig too. It encouraged me to also learn some skilled techniques.

Memories are the mental capacity or faculty of retaining and reviewing facts, events, impressions of recalling or recognizing previous experiences.
A memory bias is a cognitive bias that either enhances or impairs the recall of a memory. It
could impair or enhance the chances that the memory will be recalled at all, or the length of time it would take to recall the memory or both and even alter the content of a reported memory.
Illusion of Truth Effect
People are more likely to identify true statements as those they have previously heard before regardless of the actual validity of the statement. Even if they knowingly can't remember hearing the statement as long as it sounds familiar people are still more likely to believe a familiar statement verses an unfamiliar one.
The way I see this bias relates to me is when I think of sayings like; if you brake a mirror you will have bad luck for seven years or the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Because these sayings are said so often I believe that they hold some truth to them. I would never just break a mirror on purpose but being that I'm aware of the saying about breaking mirrors I'm more cautious with how I'm dealing with my mirror verse lets say my brush. There is no repeated statements about breaking a brush that I'm aware of so it makes it less concerning.

Humor Effect
Humorous items are more easily remembered than non-humorous one's. This might be explained by the distinctiveness of humor, the increased cognitive processing time to understand the humor, or the emotional arousal caused by the humor.
From personal experiences I agree that things that are funny are easier to remember. For example I can remember the funny portions of all of Kat Williams stand up comedy and every movie I ever seen with him in. But I usually forget where I pit my truck keys. Knowing where the keys are is more relevant that Kat Williams stand up. He is my favorite Comedian and his ability to make me laugh gives him an advantage. In relation to memories and in support of the humor effect, funny memories have an advantaged of being remembered easier.

Google Effect
The tendency to forget things you can easily look up online at a later time.
I definitely suffer from this, I use the excuse to myself that I can save room for memories that can't be looked up online. I still feel guilty sometime afterwards because I know how important it is for me to exercise my mind. I have noticed even relying on spell check has weakened my spelling ability slight on words that are lengthy or tricky to spell that I don't use often.

Beth Thomas
Nature
Nature is the coding of genes in each cell
in us humans determine the different traits that we have, more dominantly on
the physical attributes like eye color, hair color, ear size, height, and other
traits. In my opinion nature didn’t
really seem to play too much of an important role with Beth Thomas based off
the general definition of nature. I
think this is an example of how too much or too little of nature or nurture can
be an imbalance.
Nurture
Nurture is the theory holds that genetic
influence over abstract traits may exist; however, the environmental factors
are the real origins of our behavior. In
my opinion on the nurture theory is this where Beth has had too little nurture
in her early years of life. I think this
is the main reason for her behaviors.
There isn’t much nature could have done for her to behave in such a
manner. Her environment and the poor
nurturing practice is a major factor in her behavior based off the definition
of nurture. Once she was nurtured
correctly she was able to behave according to what a reasonable person would
consider reasonable behavior.

Assignment V
Learning
Learning is a relatively permanent change in behavior that is the result of experience. Operant Conditioning is a type of learning process in which the probability of response occurring is increased
or decreased due to reinforcement or punishment.
Im conditioned enough that if I want my dog to volunteer behaviors I enjoy and learn new tricks it's beneficial to have his treads. When my dog wants to earn treats he knows it time to perform and as a positive reinforcement he will receive a treat.
The video below shows and example of Operant Conditioning my dog learned how to do tricks because of consistency and positive reinforcements. This method of learning for him I have found to be the most effective and most encouraging.

CONSCIOUSNESS: Analyzing Dreams
Assignment IV
Part I
I'm going to share a dream I had the other night and explain the manifest content and the latent content. The manifest content is the actual literal subject matter of the dream. The latent content is the underlying meaning of the dream. Well before I had this dream me and my man had a small disagreement that night before bed. I didn't appreciate his tone when he was talking to me about an issue he had and I had nothing to do with it. It kind of felt like he was taking some of his negative feelings out on me. We went back and forth for a brief moment before I just ended the whole conversation. I had a dream that same night and the manifest content of that dream was in relation to dogs and looking at my dream literally it seemed unrelated to the disagreement. I had a dream we went to a distant family members house to visit, when I say distant I mean someone I never really see or talk too. They were being overly friendly and I felt like it was suspicious behavior like they wanted something. The entire visit was awkward they were explaining to us that they have to move and they have these 2 little dogs they can't take them with them. They were hinting for us to take them. They know we have a pit bull and they know we are looking for him a girlfriend. I personally don't like little dogs and my boyfriend knows that. So at this point in the dream I'm ready to go because they are really pressing their dogs on us. So I go out to the truck and my dude comes behind me with them 2 little dogs. I immediately kill any possibility of them dogs coming home with us. I hate little dogs they bark too much they bite ankles, they little punks and pretty much pointless to me. I love my pit bull his name is Mr. Mak Million he don't bark that much he wont just bite you for no reason he takes commands he's loving and protective but appropriate about it at the same time. And I don't have the patience for those little dogs they hard to train and all. There would be no room anyways when Mak's girlfriend moves in. I expressed how upset I was with them for even asking us and told them if you love your dog that much you wouldn't move anywhere were you couldn't have them. I have a pit bull you could imagine how hard it was for me to find a place with him but I did and I would never just give him up. And as a pet owner I felt like it was their responsibility to their pets to do what they have to do to take care of them until they die or you should have never got the dogs. They are like kids you don't get to decide you can't or just don't want to do it anymore you need to follow through with the commitment you made. After I spoke my mind I woke up. The latent content of this dream is in relation to the disagreement I had with my man before we went to sleep. And just like I had no responsibility in why he was upset I had no responsibility for those dogs. And by using better communication skills we could have came to a mutual agreement about our disagreement. Once I stated my case to him he agreed with my point of view on things. Using better communication skills would have made our conversation about his concerns that nights go smoothly.
Part II

Perception is defined as the
process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory impressions
in order to give meaning to their environment. For example, take a
pregnant woman who is a stay at home mom and a construction worker. When
they both view the color yellow the construction worker associates it as a
safety color and a stay at home mom would associate it with the color of her kid’s
crayons. When both people hear a loud sound the construction worker would
think its work related and the mother would think its child related.
Being that the stay at home mom is pregnant, her sense of smell can be off
as in where the construction worker smells NYC hot dogs she smells pig skin
that makes her want to puke. Eating that same hot dog, it can be a quick, delicious lunch for the hard worker on the go and an unbearable flavor for a
pregnant woman hungry enough to eat anything, well except that. Because
the construction worker has rough hands, he has a hard time feeling textures and the mother because her hands are soft and not calloused.
I have
always loved macaroni and cheese but when I got pregnant I couldn't stand the
taste, it made me puke every time I ate it. Even the thought of it made me
sick. After I had my daughter I gave it another chance because it had
been my favorite food since I could remember. In my experience being
pregnant my perception of things were slightly different. Then nine months later
out comes the baby and things kind of go back to normal once again I love
macaroni and cheese. I want to personally thank my daughter Halo for
enabling me to be able to eat all the foods I love with no nausea.

FREE WILL versus DETERMINISM
FREE WILL versus DETERMINISM
The definition of free will is the power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate and having the ability to act at one's own discretion. There hasn't been very many times I felt like I truly had the free will to do anything. I feel like this because society is governed by rules, regulations, laws and judgments.
One of the few times I can recall having fee will is during my time in the military, I was an administrative clerk. As an administrative clerk I knew the ins and outs of most things related to the job. I knew there was a way to volunteer for deployment. My company which as headquarters wasn't due for deployment until the following year and that wasn't certain it was just an educated guess based off prior knowledge.
But one of the companies under the battalion where I work had slots open and needed people to deploy. A part of my job was finding soldiers from other companies to fill the slots. I decided to use my free will to make the decision to leave my current position for a lesser position with the same pay of course to volunteer and fill one of the slots. In no way did I have any persuasion or was I required to do so, I just did it. It was something I wanted to do for personal reasons mostly because of the honor in it. Honor was one of the main reasons I joined the army to begin with.
(Me outside Saddam Hussein Palace 2010 Baghdad, Iraq)
(Me inside the palace sitting on the stairs all fixtures marble, gold and crystal)
Contrary to free will is determinism. Determinism proposes that all behavior is caused by preceding factors and is thus predictable. For example when I was in my teens I wanted to go to college to become a lawyer. It's always been a childhood dream of mine.
I knew there was no way around going to school and getting a high school diploma. If I dropped out I would have to get a GED which is the equivalent. Having at least a high school education or the equivalent to one is a step that must be taken no matter what in order to get to the next step of pursuing that career goal. There is no way it can legally be achieved without it. It is predictable that every licensed attorney has a high school education or the equivalent. Of course there are more education requirements but it is standard. So in order for me to complete my goal I had to finish high school and I'm currently required to complete specific programs to become a lawyer.
I'm still choosing to meet the education requirements buts it's because at the same time I don't have any other choice if this is the career I choose. If I could exercise my free will in this matter I would just become a lawyer without going to school for the full seven year of college, and probably wouldn't finish high school because I would be eager to work as a lawyer and make the money instead of going to school.
